Vuitton transforms Paris with a playful spectacle of color, stars and history PARIS (AP) — It was more than just another fashion show in the City of Light. Louis Vuitton’s latest extravaganza on Paris’ most famous street, the Champs-Elysées, transformed an iconic 19th-century art nouveau space into an evolving artwork. As guests entered, they encountered an ephemeral installation — a vast, expanding balloon structure that melded with the walls. But as avant-garde as it was, the installation’s plastic, coupled with an autumnal heat wave, had some attendees likening it to a fashionable, yet sweltering, greenhouse. The designs? A riot of colors, ludic patterns, and subtle riffs on harlequins. A visual feast that kept the eyes and iPhones flitting from one ensemble to the next.Yet the decor and fashion might have met their match in star power. The luminaries of Hollywood — Zendaya, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Connelly, Paul Bettany, Jaden Smith, and a host of others — converged, turning the venue into a veritable galaxy of celebrities. The heat outside mirrored the f...

Dolphins first loss of season shows they haven’t yet surpassed the Bills in AFC East MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins still have work to do if they want to be the team to beat in the AFC.They’ve shown this season that they can blow out teams and win close games, but they haven’t gotten past the division-rival Buffalo Bills, who have won the AFC East the past three seasons.Buffalo handed the Dolphins (3-1) their first loss of the season Sunday in a 48-20 defeat that kept Miami from taking the lead in the division and exposed weaknesses that either weren’t there in Miami’s first three games or were hidden by its offensive firepower. The Dolphins had outscored their opponents 130-71 and averaged 550 yards in the first three games of the season, but that high-powered offense was uneven Sunday both because of a tough Bills defensive front and because of self-inflicted wounds.A number of pre-snap penalties stalled momentum. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said he needs to be better at communicating in the huddle, but coach Mike McDaniel said...

‘It’s a survival issue’: Ukraine looks to arm itself as Western support slips In a hotel conference room in Kyiv late last week, Ukrainian leaders huddled with hundreds of defense industry officials and policymakers from allied countries. The message was clear: Ukraine is open for business.Despite the specter of Russian missile fire in the Ukrainian capital, the International Industries Defense Forum was eerily similar to the panel-laden conferences that pop up many times a year in Washington and London. But the stakes were different for this one, as Ukraine finds its supporters running out of weapons to send while others are increasingly wary of committing more money to the conflict. With the charm offensive directed at weapons-makers around the world, the country is effectively trying to take matters into its own hands.“It’s a survival issue,” said Pavel Verkhniatskyi, managing partner at COSA Intelligence Solutions in Kyiv, since there is only so long Ukraine can expect to rely on donations from partners whose support can be switched off with a single elect...

Trump blasts judge during first day of $250 million fraud trial NEW YORK — Donald Trump came face-to-face in a Manhattan court Monday with the attorney general who is suing him for massive business fraud and the judge who last week revoked his business licenses, as the former president attended the first day of a $250 million civil trial.A scowl on his face as he entered the courtroom, Trump showed up to see opening statements in the trial. New York Attorney General Tish James alleges that Trump, his adult sons, his companies and some of his business associates, fraudulently inflated Trump’s net worth in order to obtain favorable terms from banks and insurance companies.During a midday lunch break, Trump derided Justice Arthur Engoron, the state court judge overseeing the case. Engoron will decide the outcome of the trial, since it is a bench trial, meaning there is no jury.“This is a judge that should be disbarred. This is a judge that should be out of office. This is a judge that some people say could be charged criminally for what h...
