El Mirage was incorporated in 1951 and began as a rural agricultural town. It still has that rural feel today although its population has increased to a community of nearly 32,000 residents. The city’s affordable housing, proximity to Downtown Phoenix and its small town feel has attracted families seeking their first homes, empty nesters and retirees looking to slow down the pace a bit. The city is home of Luke Air Force Base, the USAF’s largest fighter pilot training facility in the world.
City leaders are committed to keeping pace with the growth of El Mirage by encouraging new builders to construct new homes in the city. In addition, they have recently completed several ambitious projects such as a new fire station, a new police station, and a state-of-the-art YMCA for the community to enjoy. One of the best zoos in the state, the Wildlife World Zoo, is just minutes away. The city also has several parks where residents can meet their neighbors and participate in group activities and sports. Gateway Park and Bill Gentry Park offer athletic fields, basketball courts, playground equipment, ramadas, BBQ grills and community centers for rent.
The city of El Mirage is dedicated to promoting a sense of community and wellness and hosts many events each year for residents. The Hispanic Heritage Fiesta, a Farmers Market, Cinco De Mayo Festival, Halloween Harvest Festival, Fall Festival and Carnival, Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, El Mirage Youth Public Safety Day, Easter Eggstravaganza Celebration and more.
El Mirage is located in the Dysart Unified School District. No matter what your stage in life, if you are looking for a slower pace of life in a small town, El Mirage might be just for you.
