Goodyear was established in 1917 and was named after the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company because the company had farmland to grow cotton for their tires. These days, the population of Goodyear hovers around 75,000 residents.
Goodyear offers an excellent variety of residential choices from affordable starter homes, upscale homes, mountainside or equestrian estates and retirement communities. Some of the larger master planned communities are Estrella, Palm Valley, Canyon Trails, Canta Mia, Vanderbilt Farms and Pebble Creek, a 55 and over community. Goodyear is located in the Goodyear Unified School District.
Goodyear is truly a family friendly community. There are close to 20 parks in the city including several dog parks. All parks are smoke-free environments and offer a great number of amenities such as tennis courts, basketball courts, skate parks, baseball and softball fields, splash pads, and much more. Many parks have greenbelts with meandering paths for walking, jogging or biking. There are also many areas around Goodyear for hiking or horse back riding such as the 19,000 acre Estrella Mountain Regional Park. This incredible park offers a 16 mile trail system, a major competitive mountain biking track and the 18-hole Estrella Mountain Regional Golf Course.
If shopping and dining is your thing, then you will be glad to know that there are plenty of options in the area. Canyon Trails Towne Center, Goodyear Centerpointe, Palm Valley Pavillions, Palm Valley Cornerstone and The Market at Estrella Falls. For dining out, you name it and you can probably find it in Goodyear. Oreganos, Macaroni Grill, Chipolte, Rubio’s, Macayos Mexican Kitchen are just a few choices around town.
Goodyear is most known for its spring training baseball games. The games are at the 10,000 seat ballpark known as Goodyear Ballpark and the Cleveland Indians call it home.
